A regatta always begins with the placement of the course buoys. Although very recent, these buoys do not move by themselves. On the other hand, they maintain their position directly via GPS and associated small electric thrusters, an effort by Toulon Provence Regatta to avoid anchoring and preserve the seabed.
Of course, we mustn't forget the Jury boat. Several teams were mobilised, between those for the 2.4mR sailboat regattas and those for the 12mJI.
The daily rankings place the 2.4mR in the order: LITTLE MISS ESME, RED RUBBER and LITTLE BIG BOAT. For the 12mJI, KOOKABURRA 2 is still in the lead ahead of KIWI MAGIC then SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
Today's new event is a Match Race between the top 3 12mJI boats in the standings. There will be more before Sunday!
The public on the seawalls and beaches of Mourillon were able to admire all these metre yachts, but not only!
Indeed, this year, 8 classic yachts are participating in the event with a coastal course between the Toulon roadstead, the Fourmigues islands at the tip of Giens, and the 2 Frères rocks below Cap Sicié. Some are astonishing, especially when it’s a replica of an 1871 Marseille lugger sloop called «ALCYON 1871» built in 2013. I invite you to discover it via its presentation board and on the pontoons on the return from the regattas. For their owners, sailing is a strong family value!
This year, all the sailboats present at the Toulon Provence Regatta had the chance to spot or cross paths with three 32-metre long by 23-metre wide ULTIM trimarans, such as «BANQUE POPULAIRE». These ULTIMs, based in the Atlantic, are making a trip to the Mediterranean for the first time, much to our delight, especially for those who were able to race alongside them.
