This year, the Toulon Provence Regatta welcomed 25 metric 2.4mR yachts to the regatta! Let's take a look back at the winning trio in this category: Megan Pascoe, Urs Infanger and Michael Jakobs. During these regattas, we were also able to discover champions from all generations, such as Ulli Libor.
Megan Pascoe is a top-level British yachtswoman. Born into a sailing family (her brother is vice world champion in 5o5), she has cerebral palsy. The 2.4mR was the boat best suited to her disability. After many years in the England team, she has established herself as one of the best sailors in all categories. Although she was not selected for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Megan has continued to excel in international competitions, winning world and European titles in the 2.4mR. She is an active campaigner for the return of sailing to the Paralympic Games, highlighting the importance of this discipline for athletes with a disability. Megan has won 2 Open World Championships (all categories) in 2016 in Hobart, Australia and in 2019 in Genoa, Italy. She has also won 3 European Open Championships in 2014, 2016 and in Quiberon in 2022.
Before turning his attention to the 2.4mR, Switzerland's Urs Infanger has long been a star in Star, winning numerous national championships. His sights are now set on the 2.4mR world championship, which will take place in October on Lake Garda in Italy. To do this, he has had a highly original prototype built, which he will be testing in Toulon. Urs came top of the Action4Europe European Circuit in 2023.
At the age of 85, Ulli Libor Together with his team-mate Peter Naumann, another great name in sailing, he shone particularly brightly in the Flying Dutchman, a boat renowned for its technical prowess and speed.
Ulli Libor established himself as one of the best German sailors of his time. He won a silver medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City and a bronze medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Libor was also successful in several major international regattas. In 1969, he won the QuarterTon World Championship and then competed four times in the Admirals Cup with the German team from 1979 to 1982. Since 2014: he has been sailing a 2.4 mR, calling his boat 'No Crew, no Cry'. "I was looking for a one-man boat so I could compete in regattas independently," he explains.
